The cars there have commercially sold counterparts, that sell for different prices. You have the relatively reasonably priced Corvette, and expensive exotics like the LFA and 458. But what if FIA accepted less expensive cars, like Mustangs, and RC-Fs and C-Class coupes, and Gen. Coupes.

That would spice up the WEC, even more.

There is no Lexus in GTE.

I don't think there's anything in the rules preventing a sedan or pony car (BMW used to race the 3-series). However, they aren't as competitive as the pure sports cars. Part of the reason BMW changed to the Z4 is because the M3 was an aerodynamic liability.

Where you do see these cars is GT3 because they get more aggressively balanced so the aero isn't a deficit. You have a good variety of them through USCC, ELMS, and World Challenge, but you'll likely never see them in the WEC. The ACO wants the series to only have cars they fully control the technical regulations on.

They had this car, almost race ready, but they dropped that project, to concentrate on the LMP1 car.

I don't understand it, they really developed a GTE car and then couldn't finish it? How much more would it have cost to build 2 LFAs and give them to Flying Lizard Motorsports? I bet it would be much more cost effective than just letting it collect dust in some garage.

Here's the full story, guess that they wanted to have as many resources and people on the LMP1, as possible. To be honest, I wouldn't mind Toyota quitting NASCAR, for GTE.

I totaly get the idea of putting all the effort from TMG to the LMP1 program, but still: They developed a race car. If it is not used it doesn't make any additional PR and marketing profit, but racing it in some championship, at least VLN, would partly justify the investment.
Btw, I have no problem with Toyota leaving NASCAR as long as Dodge comes back.

Without development money, the car is as forgettable as the Jag or Ford GT. If you can't run GTE properly, you might as well not bother.

That would be awesome but I don't see that happening. Toyota needs to promote its hybrid technology on its racecars
